Nautilus

The Nautilus

The plan of the house is a logarithmic spiral whose shape is adapted to the lot on which it is built. The preliminary work with the model involved numerous changes until the right volume was found.

The creative process was interesting, playful, fun… The best part, as the Little Prince says, is the process of cultivating the rose, even more than the rose itself.

On entering the house, one goes up a stairway and into the interior of the Nautilus past a large section of stained glass. A particular spatial experience is generated by the fact that neither the floor, nor the ceiling, nor the walls are parallel. It is a fluid three-dimensional space in which the continual dynamic of the fourth dimension is perceived as one climbs the spiraling stairs, with the sensation of floating above the vegetation.

The promenade continues through the vestibule and into the television room, nestled in the entrails of the crustacean. The winding stairway leads to the studio, from where the surrounding mountain landscape can be seen.

In the back part of the house is the private area, along with the services.
